Varicose Veins Treatment

There are many ways to treat varicose veins from compression stockings to surgery. When you talk to our specialist, your veins will be examined and the best treatment option may be recommended. For larger varicose veins or ones that are deep inside the leg, an ultrasound test may be performed to determine the extent of the damaged vein. Varicose veins are not a dangerous health hazard when they first develop, but if they are not treated, they can become more serious.

If your varicose veins have developed beyond a certain point, there are minimally invasive treatments that will remove the affected vein completely. Sclerotherapy is a procedure in which our specialist injects a saline solution directly into the affected vein. The chemical irritates the vein wall so it collapses and the vein is gradually absorbed by the surrounding tissue and disappears completely.

The same effect can be achieved with lasers and radiofrequency ablation. The laser and radiofrequency is introduced into the affected varicose vein through a tiny opening. The heat damages the vein so it collapses and gradually disappears.

All of the above minimally-invasive treatments are done as outpatient procedures in the comfort of our office in NJ. You may be asked to wear compression stockings afterwards to make sure the vein stays closed and is eliminated.

Once the varicose vein is removed or absorbed by the body, it will not return. However, if your lifestyle has contributed to the development of varicose veins, other veins can be affected. Our specialist can help you learn ways to modify your lifestyle so the other veins stay healthy.
